 | 19th Mar 2005 | Fire at Geebung
At around 12 40 hrs today (Sat 19-03- 2005) calls started coming in of a factory on fire at Robinson Rd East at Geebung. (thanks Michael A & Trish for constant updates)
Upon being informed of this I walked to my back door to see large plumes of black smoke from that direction, as I started to head that way further details came in of 921, 916 and 911 responding.
The actual fire was at the rear of Robinson Rd East on Morrisby St Geebung in a hose business of some type, on arrival crews gave a ‘code 2 well involved message’ and stated the structure was some 10 x 15 and a shed on fire, after the smoke had cleared it seemed that it was in fact pallet racking against a shed that had caught fire , the racks contained large rolls of PVC hose, the cause of the smoke and intense fire.
The racking was up against a shed and there was some smoke and fire damage to this building.
Fire was under control some 15 minutes later and a stop message transmitted.
In attendance where the following
911 heavy urban pump tanker
916 light urban pump

921 light urban pump

4,000 ltrs water an ICS and Comms center, Lighting mast, monitor (placed correctly makes a fine curtain mist over the vehicle) Microwave oven (240 volt converter) and is about to be fitted with basic road rescue gear.

 | 1st Feb 2005 | Canungra Army Base's - Tenix Fire & Rescue Service
Canungra Army Base is protected by the \'Tenix Fire & Resue Service\' a private fire protection company.
Located in the Gold Coast hinterland or Beaudesert Shire Hinterland (depends who you ask) this very large area is protected by Tenix.
Tenix operates 1 striker type unit with 500ltrs water , 1 Medium Pump with 1000ltrs water and VW powered GAAM pump and an International Acco with 3000ltrs water.
All vehicles are either ex CFA or are based on designs used in that area.
Tenix Fire & Rescue also operate another Acco at the Greenbank base, and have around 5 appliances at this time.
The station is staffed by two full time officers on weekly rotations and fire fighters are called in similar to QFRS auxiliary systems, with all staff being on call on weekends.
The Tenix Fire & Rescue are accredited and fitted with BA, the smaller striker unit is often called upon to back up Auxillary vehicles from Canungra with MVA\'s and alike when crew numbers are low, some members from Tenix are also QFRA members.
Both older vehicles are due for replacement with the Isuzu being a popular rumour.
Canungra QFRS station 22 operates an Isuzu Urban pumper rescue, with the rurals operating a smaller Isuzu pump with 2 Nissan Patrol strikers and a Toyota Land Cruiser striker.

 | 2nd Sep 2004 | Factory Fire Coopers Plains
Some three hours after being made aware of this incident I was finally able to get
away from work and attend, one of the first fires I have been to that I couldn't stay so
I missed out on many good pics as I was there maybe 20 mins and had to go.
An interesting fire for me , the fire was at 'Ezy Gleam' products , my
knowledge of this company is that they sell chemicals predominantly to the car
industry, so many solvents and nasty stuffs.
My first surprise was when I first saw the smoke in the morning around 9am there
was lots of it then nothing! On my arrival there was no smoke at all but every now and
again a large fire ball would erupt and then disappear as soon as it got there with a
small cloud of black smoke.
In a news media interview the LP operator actually stated that they thought the fire
was out until a huge fire ball exploded around him and a 40 gallon drum woshed past
him way above the fire (he quickly got out of there!)
Again from what I could see all the offices where destroyed at the front of the building
on the second level and the fire was basically playing with fire crews when I got there
at 12 30 showing itself momentarily (no pics it was so fast, but spectacular)

 | 22nd Aug 2004 | 119 Year Old House Narangba - Destroyed by Suspicious Fire
Incident : House Fire
Location: Burpengary Road Narangba , Brisbane

OR27 (Deception Bay Light Attack)
Charlie 2-0 (two zero) Area Director ??
FIU (Fire Investigator)
Various Police detectives and uniformed
Qld Ambulance
A 119 Year Old house went up in flames on Sunday in what is being described as 'Arson' by Police after two teenage boys where seen loitering near the house no long after the blaze started, the boys are as the say assisting the police with their enquiries.
Fire quicly took hold of the historic house with little or no hope of putting it out.
First crew arriving 925 reports code 2 (structure) code 99 (well involved) from all accounts and condition of the house on my arrival the house went up very well destroying not only the house but land and bush and storage sheds around the property.
Reports from people living in area was that house was under repair for some time and had become a fire hazard with letters to council stating this, gentleman seemed pleased with the phone call he gets to make in the morning , no doubt a 'I told you so' coming for some lucky council employee.
Last crews left scene at 16 38hrs with time of call unknown but believed to be just before 1pm.

 | 8th Aug 2004 to 16th Aug 2004 | Car Carrier Roll Over Brisbane 08-09-2004
At Camira on the 8th August 2004 at around 4 30pm reports came in of a B Double Truck (Car Transporter) roll over on the Gailes motorway, initial reports had a vehicle on fire also that was ejected from the rig, this fire was put out by attending fire crews and by standers and this incident caused major traffic problems!
Cars and rear trailer (1 of 2 trailers) ended up down a steep embankment as well as many vehicles from the truck, also other vehicles became crushed under the trailer and those that remained on the vehicle became mangled.
The truck (tractor) suffered very little damage with the worst being inflicted on the two trailers and vehicles on the transporter.
The truck stopped just a short distance of the over pass barrier and we can only guess what may have happened had it gone over that landing on the busy traffic below at high speeds.
Attending was 944 (Karana Downs) and 918 (Oxley), 918 were given a return to station before arrival.
I arrived many hours after the incident and took the following images, 944 returned to station a little after 8 30pm.

This is the training house that was at the OLD Lytton QFRA Academy, it was set alight many many time’s for training purposes through gas lines throughout the structure and then put out again by either fire fighters or a system of water sprinklers throughout.
These group of images where taken the same day as the HOTPAD images and was a symbolic action to signify the end of an era, as part of our invitation when I was active with Samford Rural Fire Brigade , we provided protection to the outside perimeter, very impressive night.

 | 30th May 2004 | New Wynnum Fire Station 15 - 30th May 2004
On the 17th May 1959 as Station Officer Sidney William Brown from Wynnum watched as a fire appliance went past his property at 2006 Wynnum Road Wynnum, a second one followed, being a Firefighter he sensed some thing was happening and went to investigate.
As he arrived at the Picture theatre he ignored that fact that he was not on shift and assisted where he could, as he and fellow fire fighter Sub Station Officer Herbert George Lees stood below the projection room it collapsed killing both men.
On the 30th May 2004 the new Wynnum Fire Station Opened at the same property Mr Brown watched the fire appliances go by so many years ago, the station moved from Mountjoy Terrace to its new home. This is an extremely proud station with the Line Of Duty Deaths of both Mr Brown and Mr Lees in 1959 and again tragedy struck this station with the death of Firefighter Jeffrey Bruce Penfold during a forklift fire at Lytton docks, the tyre of the vehicle exploded killing the Firefighter on the 24th August 2001.
The new station is dedicated to Mr Brown and the new Scania Appliance dedicated to Mr Penfold.
Apart from the sad but interesting history of the new station and old Firefighting sacrifices the day was upbeat and more in remembrance than sombre sorrow.

 | 28th May 2004 | Merv Greys QATB Ambulances of Yesteryear Image Collection
Ok here are some pics from Qld ambulance , these pics are from the private photo collection of Merv Bray an ambulance officer from Warwick, the photo collection is from many years of photography of the vehicles at Mervs stations from time to time, I have never seen so many pictures of different ambulances over a period of many years, I hope you all enjoy it as much as I have scanning and posting them, for anyone that is in the area Merv has his own ambulance museum in his back yard that is as good if not better than the one at Wynnum and is open any time as long as he is home, should you be visiting the area contact me for details.
History of the Qld Ambulance
On the night of September 12 1892, a group of Ambulance enthusiasts met in Brisbane to start the CATB, City Ambulance Transport Brigade, the begining of todays Queensland Ambulance Service.
The meeting was held in the home of the founder of CATB Seymour Warrian, and was attended also by Eustace Jack, Geo Windle, W. Tomkins, F.Rudd, A. Beeston, J. Brown, E Slaughter, F.Higginbotham, W. Daniels, W. Hargaves Snr, J. Marlow, A. Clothier and E. J. Smith.
But before the forming of the CATB, the Police with little if any tranning had the resposibility for helping accident victims. If Police found an unconscious person in the street, that person was loaded into a 'jingle' a two wheeled cab and taken to the Police Lock up, if that person didnt regain consciousness by that next morning the Government Medical Officer was called in. In addition the Defence Ambulance Corps (DAC) of the Moreton, Formed in 1884, also played an important role, for instance the Qld Turf Club first invited the DAC to attend horse race meetings and the tradition of having an Ambulance at race meetings continues to this day.
